It is time we return to Camp Half-Blood with the highly-awaited Disney+ show Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
Percy Jackson infiltrated classrooms and delved into the imaginations of middle schoolers everywhere upon its release in 2005. Since then, it has amassed a loyal and dedicated fanbase, one that was thrilled to hear about the upcoming show adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
Read on for current news on the upcoming show adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
What is the premise of Rick Riordan’s bestselling novel Percy Jackson and the Olympians?
Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson’s life takes a shocking turn when he learns that he is not simply a mere mortal but a demigod and the son of Poseidon, the god of the sea.
To foster his abilities, Percy ventures to Camp Half-Blood and soon finds himself assigned to a quest that sends him across America to neutralize the rising tensions amidst the gods.
Who is creating the show adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians?
The show Percy Jackson and the Olympians is based on Rick Riordan’s New York Times bestselling series and strays from the movie adaptations in that Riordan had an actual hand in its creation. In fact, he wrote the screenplay with Jonathan E. Steinberg.
“The filming has followed the book story very closely, almost as if the author were involved himself!” Riordan said on his website. “Sure, there are small tweaks and changes here and there, which were mutually agreed upon, but the biggest difference is the ‘value added.’ You will get peeks at character backstory, foreshadowing Easter eggs of things to come, and nuances in Percy’s family history that I think you will love.”
“The neat thing about revisiting this tale, almost twenty years after I first wrote it, is that I get to address some of the questions that fans have asked me over the years: “What does this mean?” “Why does this happen the way it does?” “What would happen if —?” It’s been really satisfying and fun,” Riordan added.
Executive producers are Jet Wilkinson, Jeremy Bell, James Bobin, Anders Engström, D.J. Goldberg, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Monica Owusu-Breen, Riordan, Rebecca Riordan, Dan Shotz, Jim Rowe, Bert Salke, Dan Shotz, Steinberg and Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, and D.J. Goldberg.
Production companies include 20th Century Fox Television, 20th Television, Gotham Group, and Walt Disney Studios.
