Madeline Miller is the queen of Greek mythology retellings. Not only does Miller put a fresh spin on the classical tale, but she also casts a feminist light onto the myth and provides the misunderstood witch a voice to tell her story.

In 2018, Miller took the book community by storm with her release of Circe. Since its release, over two million copies have been sold, an exciting benchmark reported by Miller on her Instagram.

The breakout sensation and international bestseller went on to take home the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Fantasy and was named the best book of the year by Bustle, Buzzfeed, NPR, People, and The Washington Post, to name a few, and was optioned as a TV series back in 2018 according to Miller.

Read on for current news on the upcoming show adaptation of Circe.

What is the premise of Madeline Miller’s bestselling novel Circe?

Before Circe became known as the Goddess of Sorcery, she was nothing but a strange child in the eyes of her father, Helios, the Sun God. However, upon discovering the world of the occult in the mortal dimension, Circe finds that she does have power – a power soon deemed too threatening by the Gods – a power that provokes her banishment to a small, deserted island. And that power will live on in the legends of the human world.

For an enriching mythological retelling of the Goddess of Sorcery, I recommend Madeline Miller’s beautifully woven take on Homer’s The Odyssey with Circe

Who is creating Circe?

According to Deadline, HBO Max will adapt an eight-episode show adaptation of Miller’s bestseller.
