If you’re a blogger who uses Pinterest, Tailwind is an absolute must. It is a literal godsend as it saves you time and energy while also increasing your reach and traffic potential. In fact, since starting Tailwind, my monthly Pinterest viewers went from 30,000 to 3.4 million and my blog traffic has grown from 4,000 to about 80,000 pageviews per month!

These are me personal results. If you want to better understand the typical results for Pinterest members using Tailwind, check out this informative Tailwind post here

However, although Tailwind has sped up the process, there are still many factors that play into your Pinterest/Tailwind success.

For starters, fresh content is an absolute must if you want to stay relevant on Pinterest. That means creating eye-catching pins that link to high-quality content. Taking the time to create new content and pins will help in increasing your overall engagement which means more saves and clicks! Of course, there is a lot more that goes into your Pinterest success which we will get into down below.

You should definitely create an account with Tailwind if you have not done so yet. You can schedule your first 100 pins on Pinterest and 30 posts on Instagram for free with no time limit. The added bonus is that you do not need to enter any credit card information!

What are fresh pins and why are fresh pins so important?

Any pin that has never been pinned before counts as a fresh pin which means you can create multiple fresh pins for one piece of content. I tend to create at least two or three “fresh” pins for each article. Sometimes I’ll even create new pins for my older content to give them a breath of life and increase the number of visitors. It never hurts to bring in more visitors, no matter how old the content. If anything, you can always freshen up the content and update it if need be.

One thing to keep in mind when creating fresh content is that the pin image must be different from previous pins for that piece of content. Using the same image and changing the title/description does not count as fresh.

With that said, if you want Pinterest to reward you, create fresh content. Pinterest’s algorithm favors fresh pins rather than duplicates and they tend to outperform them as well. That means that your fresh pins are more likely to be distributed in places like the Home Feed and Search results.

How many pins should you pin per day?

According to Tailwind, the most successful pinners pin between 15 to 25 pins per day. Pinning more than 50 times per day can actually end up hurting your engagement score if you’re not posting new and interesting content.

On average, I post anywhere from 25 to 30 pins per day. However, I recently switched it to 20 to 25 times which has made Tailwind/Pinterest life much simpler as I no longer have to fill up as many spaces as before per day. Before switching, I didn’t even realize how much more difficult I was making it for myself and now, well, I’m more relaxed.

How does Tailwind help to keep your content fresh?

Tailwind has recently implemented the SmartGuide, an assistant feature, which offers valuable tips that aim to help pinners take advantage of the latest Pinning practices for best results. As best practices for social networks are constantly changing, the SmartGuide is an incredibly beneficial tool that pinners should definitely take advantage of.

SmartGuide’s helpful recommendations include:

  • Alerting you if you try pinning the same pin to more than ten boards. Pinning the same pin too frequently can eventually hurt your overall engagement and lead to a decline in your website traffic.
  • Suggesting easy fixes that will help you maintain a healthy pin queue.

Examples of fresh pins for a piece of content

Below are four different pins for this piece. The first two have the same design, but I played around with the backgrounds and colors which makes them each unique and thereby “fresh”. Of course, it’s not necessary to make this many pins. I usually shoot for at least two, but I was much more motivated this time around.

The #1 perk of creating multiple pins for each piece of content is the extra insight on which pins do best.
